BITS Pilani (Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad campuses)
NIRF engineering rank 11, NAAC A grade, established 1964. It is a private deemed university and one of two Institutes of Eminence on this list.
BITS Pilani doesn’t publish a single standard placement figure across all campuses and programs. It releases separate reports for different campuses and degree programs. So, the placement figures depend on which report you’re reading. For the Class of 2025, the combined report shows that the average package of this institution is ₹22.3 lakh and the median package is ₹19.1 lakh. Earlier NIRF reports show B.E.-specific median packages around ₹17.7–19.9 lakh. The highest packages regularly cross ₹1 crore, mainly in quant trading and product roles.
Four-year tuition cost is around ₹25–26 lakh. If you add hostel expenses, the total is going close to ₹31 lakh. Admission is through BITSAT, not JEE Main. Students choose their final branch after the first year based on their CGPA.

The four-year tuition fees range from ₹11 lakh to ₹24 lakh, depending on the branch. CSE, AI/ML, and Data Science are usually at the higher end of the fee range. Admission is through SRMJEEE, SRM’s own entrance examination.

VIT officially confirmed a 1 crore highest package on its placement portal. However, the average and median packages provide a clear picture of the placement. The 2025 combined placement report shows an average package of ₹7.62 lakh and a median package of ₹6 lakh. The gap shows that a small number of high-paying offers increase the overall average package. CSE reported a much higher average package, ranging from ₹9.9 lakh to ₹14.8 lakh, depending on the campus and placement year.
VIT doesn’t have one fixed tuition fee for BTech. It follows a category-based fee system. Based on your VITEEE rank, four-year BTech tuition ranges from about ₹7 lakh to ₹18 lakh. This means two students in the same branch may pay different fees.
Best for: Students who are targeting CSE or its specialisations, and anyone comfortable with a rank-based fee system.

4. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore
NIRF Engineering Rank 23, NAAC A++, deemed university since 2003, established in 1994.
Different sources report different placement figures for Amrita. Promotional material reports an average BTech package of ₹9.08 lakh with a highest package of ₹80.4 lakh. However, Amrita’s own NIRF filing presents a more conservative picture: 1,619 of 2,634 BTech students were placed, the median package was ₹7.75 lakh, and the placement rate was about 62%. These numbers are lower than the figures reported on many promotional pages.
We’re not publishing a tuition fee for Amrita. Every source we checked reported a different figure, and some combined BTech fees with other programs on the same campus. We also couldn’t find a detailed fee schedule on the official website. If tuition cost matters to your decision, confirm the official figure directly with Amrita’s admissions office. Treat any fee listed on other websites as an estimate until you verify it directly with the university.
Best for: Students who value Amrita’s research focus and prefer the Coimbatore campus environment.

Thapar has some of the most consistent placement data among the colleges in this comparison. For the 2025 batch, the average package is ₹11.38 lakh, and the median package is ₹10 lakh. The gap is only about 14%—one of the smallest on this list. This suggests that placements are spread more evenly among students rather than being driven by a few exceptionally high offers. The highest package reached ₹1.23 crore, and 90–95% of eligible students are placed in most years.

KIIT’s most reliable placement data comes from the 2024 placement season. It reports an average package of ₹8.5 lakh, a highest package of ₹53 lakh, and an 83% placement rate across 700 companies. Some 2025–26 sources claim a higher average package and a highest package of ₹80 lakh. We couldn’t verify these figures. So treat them as estimates rather than confirmed numbers. KIIT also hasn’t published a median package figure. This makes it difficult to judge how evenly placements are distributed.
The 4-year BTech tuition fee is around ₹14 lakh. Including hostel and mess charges, the total cost is roughly ₹18–22 lakh. Admission is through KIITEE or JEE Main score.
Best for: Students looking for a large, well-resourced campus with a broad recruiter base beyond just IT companies.

SASTRA offers one of the best value-for-money engineering programs in this comparison. Four-year BTech tuition for most branches ranges from ₹3.4 lakh to ₹9.4 lakh. This is much lower than BITS Pilani, Thapar, or SRM. As per SASTRA’s NIRF filing, 1,469 of 1,680 BTech students were placed (about 87%), with a median package of ₹7.6–8 lakh. When you compare its fees with placement outcomes, SASTRA offers one of the fastest returns on investment (ROI) on this list.
The only figure we couldn’t verify confidently is the highest package. Different sources report ₹37 lakh, ₹35–40 lakh, and ₹45 lakh. The differences are likely due to different placement years or reporting methods. As the figures aren’t consistent, we can’t confirm any of the figures. If the highest package is important to you, contact SASTRA’s placement cell for the latest placement information.
Best for: Students and families who want excellent value for money, especially if tuition cost is a major concern. It’s also a good choice for those who prefer a smaller, quieter campus than VIT or SRM.

8. Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal

MIT has some of the most consistent placement data in this comparison. We checked across the sources, and the 2025 placement figures remain nearly identical: an average package of ₹12.31 lakh, a median package of ₹10.05 lakh, a highest package of ₹69.25 lakh, and an 86% placement rate. There is a 22% gap between the average and median package. This suggests that higher offers lift the average, but not as much as at colleges like VIT.
The tuition fees for CSE are around ₹5 lakh per year (about ₹20 lakh for four years). Most other branches have lower tuition fees. Admission is through MET (Manipal Entrance Test).
Best for: Students who want a well-known campus, a vibrant residential college experience, and reliable placement data.
Skip if: Your decision is based mainly on the NIRF rank. Despite its NIRF rank, the placement outcomes are competitive with several colleges on this list.

What the Placement Numbers Actually Tell You
An average package tells only one part of the placement. This table compares the average-to-median gap using the placement data available for each college. The colleges are ordered from the smallest gap to the largest.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is NIRF rank the same as NAAC grade?
No. NIRF ranks institutes relative to one another on a 1-100+ scale based on teaching resources, research, graduation outcomes, and reputation. NAAC grades the overall quality of an institute on its own scale (A++, A+, A, and so on) without comparing it to other colleges. A college can hold NAAC A++ and still rank outside the NIRF top 50. Do these colleges accept JEE Main scores?
Thapar admits purely on JEE Main. Amrita and KIIT accept JEE Main as an alternative to their own institution’s exam. The remaining colleges (BITS, SRM, VIT, Manipal, SASTRA) primarily admit students through their own entrance exams. Some also reserve a small number of seats through JEE Main.
Why do average and median packages differ so much?
The average combines all salary offers and then calculates the mean using the total number of students. Some high offers (often ₹1 crore-plus roles in CSE) can drag the average up. The median is the middle value, what a typical student in the batch actually got. When the gap is large, as with VIT, placement outcomes are usually concentrated among top graduates. The outcomes aren’t spread evenly across the batch.
Is branch more important than college?
For placement outcomes, often yes. CSE and its specialisations generally have higher placement rates and salary packages than core branches at the same institute.
