BITS Pilani is among the few institutions in India that publish their 4-year tuition fees in advance. At the time of admission, you already know the tuition fee for the second, third, and fourth years. This level of transparency is especially valuable for students for whom the fee structure is a deciding factor in choosing a college.

This guide covers the complete BITS Pilani fees, including tuition, hostel, advances, scholarships, and realistic four-year cost scenarios. It is designed for students planning to join BITS Pilani, Goa, or Hyderabad through BITSAT.

One Thing BITS Does Differently From Most Private Universities

At VIT, SRM, or Manipal, fees change every academic year. But BITS Pilani published its official fee schedule through AY 2029–30 during the 2025 admission cycle. It announces the tuition fee for each year in advance. You can plan your entire four-year budget before paying your first rupee.

Another important difference is that BITS does not charge different branch-wise fees. CSE, Mechanical, Civil, ECE, Chemical Engineering, and other B.E. branches have the same tuition fee — ₹2,75,000 per semester in 2025–26. At VIT, for example, CSE students in Group B pay more than Civil students in Group A. At BITS, tuition fees are the same across all branches.

Finally, BITS doesn’t have a management quota. Admission is based entirely on BITSAT scores, with no alternate admission route.

One-Time Fees Paid at Admission

Per-Semester Fees

The following recurring fees are paid at the beginning of each semester:

Important: Tuition and hostel charges are recurring semester-wise costs, while the activity fee and student aid fund are annual charges. The advances are adjusted against the applicable expenses.

Summer Term Fees— Only If You Register

BITS Pilani sets the summer-term tuition fee at 35% of the current semester tuition fee. Summer-term registration is optional. Students generally use it to clear backlogs, complete credits faster, or get ahead of their curriculum. If you do not register for any summer-term courses, you do not pay summer-term fees.

The Pre-Published Tuition Schedule: 2025-29

This is BITS Pilani’s key tuition-fee schedule. It announced these semester tuition fees during the 2025 admission cycle. This allows students to know the tuition amounts for each academic year in advance.

Semester tuition fee increases by 5% each year.  Hostel fees are also revised each year. However, BITS does not publish a hostel-fee escalation schedule in advance as it does for tuition fees. Therefore, it is best to keep some extra room in your four-year budget to account for possible hostel-fee increases.

What Are “Other Advances”?

This fee item often confuses students and parents because it is listed without much explanation.

The ₹12,000 per-semester “Other Advances” is a prepaid balance loaded onto your BITS student ID. When you purchase food at the BITS COOP, pay at the canteen, or use certain campus services through your ID card, the applicable charges are deducted from this balance. Any unused amount at the end of the semester is adjusted in your next semester’s billing.

In simple terms, it is not a fee that you lose. It works like a prepaid campus wallet, with the balance reconciled each semester.

What About the Mess and Electricity Advance?

The ₹10,000 Mess and Electricity Advance works in the same way. It covers your actual dining hall charges and electricity consumption. It tracks your actual expenses and deducts them from this advance. Any surplus is credited to your account and adjusted later.

Both advances are recoverable in your final semester when you graduate, subject to any outstanding charges.

Total 4-Year Tuition Cost (Tuition Only, No Summer Term)

Here is the exact four-year tuition cost for a student joining in AY 2025–26 as per BITS Pilani’s pre-published tuition schedule.

This is the tuition-only cost and does not include hostel, mess, advances, or summer-term fees. Because BITS published the tuition schedule in advance, you can calculate this four-year tuition cost before joining.

BITS Pilani Total Fees for 4 Years BTech with Hostel

The following calculations are based on the official 2025-26 fee components. Since BITS Pilani does not publish a hostel rate schedule in advance, we estimate a 5% annual increase in hostel charges for Years 2- 4.

Budget A: Tuition + Hostel (Minimum Essential Budget)

These estimates cover tuition, hostel charges, one-time admission costs, and annual Student Union and Aid Fund charges. The mess and other advances are not added to the final costs because these amounts are adjusted against actual expenses.

After the ₹3000 caution deposit is returned, the effective cost is approximately ₹27.12 lakh.

Budget B: Total-Out-of-Pocket Cost Including Advances

The mess and other advances (₹22,000 per semester combined) are prepaid amounts that are largely adjusted against actual expenses. In practice, students use these balances for meals, electricity, canteen purchases, and other eligible campus expenses. For a conservative estimate, these amounts are included here in full.

Personal expenses (books, travel, clothing, and entertainment) typically add another ₹2,000–₹5,000 per month, or approximately ₹96,000–₹2.40 lakh over four years.

Realistic 4-Year Budget

After adding these personal expenses, a realistic 4-year budget is approximately ₹29.84–₹31.28 lakh, depending on your lifestyle. If you take summer-term courses, you would pay an additional fee.

Important: This is a planning estimate. Hostel charges for future years are estimated because BITS does not publish the hostel escalation schedule in advance.

The Same Fees Across All Three Campuses

Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad are the three campuses of BITS. All three campuses follow the same fee structures. They charge the same ₹60,500 admission fee, ₹2,75,000 semester tuition fee in 2025–26, and ₹32,700 hostel fee per semester. The fee structure does not vary by campus.

The campuses differ in academic environment, campus culture, BITSAT cutoffs, and branch availability. BITS Pilani generally has the highest cutoffs and the widest branch options compared to Goa and Hyderabad. However, the fee structure is the same across all three campuses.

The Dual Degree Factor

BITS allows students to pursue two degrees simultaneously. You can earn a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree and an M.Sc. (Hons) degree in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Biology, or Computer Science. This is known as the Dual Degree programme.

A dual degree program takes about 5 to 5.5 years to complete. This means you have to complete 2 to 3 semesters more. The cost of an additional semester is ₹3,17,500–₹3,33,000 based on the AY 2028–29 and 2029–30 rates. Two additional semesters add approximately ₹6.35–₹6.66 lakh to your tuition fee.

For the complete programme, a dual degree student should budget around ₹30–35 lakh. This is around ₹ 4-5 lakh more than the regular engineering degree. You can apply for the dual degree program at the time of admission or after the first year. This gives you the flexibility to decide after starting your programme.

Practice School: Does It Add to Fees?

BITS run its Practice School (PS) internship programme at all its campuses. It gives students professional internships at external companies and research labs. PS-1 is a summer internship that takes place between Semesters 4 and 5. PS-2 is a full-semester internship during the final fourth year.  

Practice school does not replace your regular tuition fees. You still pay the applicable semester fees during a PS internship. PS works with different companies in different cities. So, your accommodation and travel costs may differ from regular on-campus living. Some students may spend less if their company provides accommodation or a stipend. Others may spend more if they are posted to an expensive city.

BITS charges an additional fee when you register for the PS program. It is a part of the curriculum. If you register for a PS summer session, you pay a fee equal to 35% of the previous year’s semester fee, following the same formula used for the summer term. This is in addition to regular hostel charges if you continue to stay on campus.

Scholarships: What You Can Actually Get

BITSAT Score-Based Scholarship (First Year Only)

BITS Pilani gives students a tuition concession in their first year based on their BITSAT score:

These concessions apply to first-year tuition only (two semesters). A student who scores 300 or above in BITSAT can save ₹4,12,500 in Year 1, which is 75% of the ₹5,50,000 first-year tuition. This is a significant reduction for Year 1. The concession does not continue into Years 2-4.

Hostel Fee Concession (All 4 Years)

If you score 150 or above in BITSAT, you will get a 25% concession on hostel fees for the normal programme duration. Now the hostel fee is ₹32,700 for one semester. This means you can save ₹8,175 per semester, or about ₹65,400 over 8 semesters. This concession applies to all scores above 150, without any score bracket.

Institutional Merit Scholarship (Ongoing, Renewable Per Semester)

After admission, students can compete for semester-wise internal merit scholarships based on their academic performance:

These scholarships are renewable every semester. Students who perform consistently among the top ranks can receive a significant tuition concession throughout their degree. The top 2% threshold is highly competitive. You must maintain strong academic performance to continue the scholarship.

Merit-cum-Need (MCN) Scholarship

The MCN is a financial assistance program for students with demonstrated financial need and strong academic performance.

MCN scholarships are reviewed periodically. Applicants must meet the specified annual family income limits and minimum cumulative grade point requirements to be eligible. This is different from the BITSAT Score-Based Scholarship, which is based entirely on ranking.

Board Topper Scholarship

The Board Topper Scholarship is a direct admission pathway for rank holders of central and state board examinations. Students can gain direct admission to BITS without BITSAT. They also receive first-semester tuition fee waivers of 100%, 75%, and 50%, respectively.

BITS Alumni-Funded Scholarships

BITS alumni support several additional named scholarships, including some specifically for women in STEM pursuing engineering degrees at BITS. These scholarships can provide multi-year tuition support to students who meet both merit and income criteria. Eligible students receive scholarship details after admission through the student portal.

Fees BITS Doesn’t Charge That Others Do

• BITS has no branch-premium fee. Whether you study CSE or Civil Engineering, the tuition fee remains the same. This differs from many comparable private universities.
• BITS has no management quota. There is no separate “management seat” category with a higher fee or different price.
• There is no special fee for dual-degree students. Even if you pursue two programmes at the same time, you pay the standard semester fees.

Costs Students Typically Underestimate

Personal expenses at Pilani:

Personal expenses depend on individual lifestyles. Pilani is a smaller city in the Jhunjhunu district. A budget of roughly ₹3,000–₹5,000 per month is usually sufficient for personal expenses. However, it completely depends on you.

Travel home:

Most students ignore the travel cost when planning their budget. If you are from outside the district, travelling home can be more expensive and time-consuming.

Textbooks and course material:

BITS has a large library system, but some required textbooks may not be available through it. It is advisable to budget ₹5,000–₹10,000 for the whole course.

Laundry:

Laundry costs are not included in the hostel expenses at BITS Pilani. This is an additional expense for a student.

Fee Payment: How It Actually Works

Fees are paid semester-wise–not annually. At the beginning of each semester, you pay the tuition, hostel fee, and two advance amounts together. In Year 1, this comes to approximately ₹3,29,700 per semester before any fee increase:

• ₹2,75,000 tuition
• ₹32,700 hostel
• ₹10,000 mess advance
• ₹12,000 other advances

Year 1 payment: The ₹60,500 admission fee is paid separately at admission, along with the first-semester fees. It is non-refundable under any circumstances.
