Top Engineering Colleges in Delhi: Ranking, Fees, Placements, Admission

Top Engineering Colleges in Delhi

Delhi has a diverse engineering landscape, with several established institutions. Like our Odisha and Karnataka lists, this comparison brings together government and private institutions. We compare each college not only by its ranking, but also by its tuition fees and placement data.

Every figure below is based on the official NIRF 2025 Engineering rankings, the college’s own published placement report, its official website or other reliable sources. If sources disagree or a figure isn’t available, we mention it in the relevant section.

The Surprising Part: JMI’s Median Package Is Higher Than IIT Delhi’s

Jamia Millia Islamia’s most recent NIRF-reported median BTech package is ₹25.2 lakh. Three independent sources support this figure, with reported values differing by only a few thousand rupees. IIT Delhi’s reported median package is approximately ₹19-20 lakh.

These figures come with important context. JMI’s BTech batch size is smaller than IIT Delhi’s. A smaller cohort can influence the median more easily than a larger one. This doesn’t make JMI’s figure less valid, but it also does not mean JMI will outperform IIT Delhi across every branch.

This comparison also highlights an important point. IIT Delhi ranks 2nd, and JMI is ranked 24th in the NIRF Engineering rankings. Yet, JMI’s reported median package is higher. Students should therefore look beyond rankings and consider placement outcomes, fee structure, and other factors when comparing colleges.

Why We’re Not Publishing A “Highest Package” For IIT Delhi

IIT Delhi’s highest-package figures vary widely across online sources. Recent reports mention ₹48 lakh, over ₹40 lakh, and more than ₹2 crore. Different articles from the same website sometimes report different figures. IIT Delhi also does not officially publish an average package, so these figures are best treated as unofficial estimates.

IIT Delhi is not the only example. Multiple independent sources report DTU’s highest package as ₹85 lakh for domestic offers and ₹1.8 crore for international offers. However, older pages still carry different figures from previous years. NSUT’s highest package also fell from over ₹1 crore in 2024 to ₹94 lakh in 2025. This shows why the year attached to a package figure matters.

For this reason, we have not included a single “highest package” figure for IIT Delhi. Median and average placement figures are more useful for comparison when they are clearly sourced and tied to a specific year. Treat any eye-catching highest-package figure with caution and always check the year and source behind it.

The Fee Gap Isn’t What You’d Expect

Delhi shows a different fee pattern from what we found in our Odisha and Karnataka articles. JMI is a central government university and ranks 24th nationally. Its approximate 4-year fee is ₹77,000— the lowest on this list. Another government-affiliated college, IIIT Delhi, costs around ₹19.55 lakh, which is about 25 times higher.

The three private GGSIPU colleges — MAIT, MSIT, and BPIT — report a much more affordable fee range of roughly ₹6.4–8.2 lakh. They cost less than IIIT Delhi, DTU, and NSUT. So, a government college is not always more affordable.

Choosing Between Two Real Options

IIT Delhi or JMI?

IIT Delhi JMI
Choose IIT Delhi if you prioritise the strongest brand recognition, broad recruiter reach, and access to technical and research-focused opportunities. Choose JMI if the fee-to-outcome ratio is your priority. Its verified median currently exceeds IIT Delhi’s.

DTU or NSUT?

DTU NSUT
Choose DTU for its larger, more consistently active recruiter base and strong overall placement outcomes. Choose NSUT if you are particularly interested in CSE, where its branch-specific outcomes are slightly stronger on average.

IIIT Delhi or DTU/NSUT for CSE?

Choose IIT Delhi Choose DTU/NSUT
If you are choosing CSE/software as your path and can comfortably afford the higher fee. IIT Delhi’s specialised curriculum, brand and research ecosystem provide a meaningful advantage. If cost matters more, DTU and NSUT offer strong CSE outcomes at a much lower fee. They are good alternatives to IIT Delhi without the higher fee.

A Private GGSIPU college or IGDTUW?

IGDTUW MAIT / MSIT / BPIT
Choose IGDTUW if you are eligible and want a women’s-only technical university with well-documented placement outcomes. Consider these colleges if you want a private GGSIPU option and their admission route or college-specific factors suit you. Placement figures should be checked carefully because current, comparable data were not reliably available for all three.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is IIT Delhi really not the best-paying option in Delhi?

Not necessarily. JMI’s median package is ₹25.2 lakh, and IIT Delhi is ₹19–20 lakh. By median BTech package, JMI currently comes out ahead. But that does not make IIT Delhi a weaker option. It is one of India’s most recognised institutions, with a strong NIRF rank, research output, brand recognition, and recruiter diversity.

Why can’t I get a straight answer on IIT Delhi’s highest package?

We don’t publish a specific highest package for IIT Delhi because the number varies by source. It ranges from ₹48 lakh to over ₹2 crore. IIT Delhi doesn’t officially publish an average package. It only publishes an official median package. Treat any online highest package with caution. If the highest package matters to your college choice, verify the figure directly with the institution.

What’s the difference between JoSAA, JAC Delhi, and IPU CET?

JoSAA counselling handles admissions to IITs and NITs through JEE Advanced or JEE Main. JAC Delhi is the counselling system specifically for DTU, NSUT, IIIT Delhi, and IGDTUW, using JEE Main scores. IPU CET is GGSIPU’s own exam for its affiliated private colleges such as MAIT, MSIT, and BPIT.

Is a government college in Delhi always cheaper than a private one?

No. JMI is a government college and is far cheaper than the private colleges on this list. IIIT Delhi is also a government-affiliated college, but its fee is higher than those private options. So, a government college is not always cheaper than a private one.

Which of these colleges has the most reliable, verifiable data?

DTU and IGDTUW had the most reliable, verified data across independent sources we checked. MSIT and BPIT had the least reliable placement data.

Sources and Methodology

NIRF Engineering ranks, bands, and scores come from NIRF India and are cross-checked against independent published sources. Placement and fee figures come from each college’s individual placement reports and official communications where available. Where sources disagreed by more than a small margin, or a figure was not published recently enough to trust, we’ve flagged it directly in that college’s section.

If you have current, officially sourced figures for any of the gaps flagged here—particularly MSIT’s placement data, BPIT’s current NIRF standing, or IGDTUW’s fee structure—we’d rather correct this page than leave it incomplete.
