Attendance is tracked per subject, not per semester
Your calculator shows one overall attendance percentage. But many colleges check attendance for each subject, not just the overall percentage.
For example, you may have 79% overall attendance but only 65% in one subject. One subject with low attendance can affect your exam eligibility even if you have a minimum attendance percentage. Many students find this when the attendance warnings or exam notices are released.
Check the attendance of each subject regularly. Most college portals and student apps show your overall and subject-wise attendance percentage.
Days that can affect your attendance count
College-cancelled days get handled differently across universities. Assuming you’re automatically marked present is a mistake. Always check your college’s attendance rules instead of making assumptions.
Hartals and bandhs
Your attendance may be handled differently in case a hartal or bandh forces your college to close. Some colleges remove those classes, while others mark all students present. Check your college’s attendance policy or ask your class coordinator how those days were counted.
Cancelled lectures and makeup classes
When a class is cancelled due to faculty leave or internal exam scheduling, it is usually removed from the attendance calculations. If it’s rescheduled, missing the makeup class carries the same weight as missing the original class. Students regularly skip the makeup, assuming the cancellation already cleared the day.
Official college events
If you are officially representing your college in an event, your absence may be treated as an excused absence. You may need a duty leave letter, participation certificate or other supporting documents as proof. But attending an event as a spectator doesn’t qualify for attendance relaxation.
When your attendance record has an error
Attendance records are not always accurate. If a faculty member marks the wrong row, attendance may not be uploaded, or a cancelled class may be incorrectly recorded in the system.
If you spot one, contact the subject teacher as soon as possible. Bring your student ID and any proof that shows you attended the class that day. My attendance is 74.6%. Will it round up to 75%?

My overall attendance is 80%, but one subject is at 68%. Can I write that exam?
