How your grade is actually built
At SRM, your final course grade does not depend only on your final exam. It is based on both continuous internal assessment and the end-of-semester exam. Internal assessments (tests, quizzes, assignments, and practicals, where applicable) are combined with your end-semester marks to determine your final grade and grade point.
A commonly used pattern is 40 marks for internal assessment and 60 marks for the end-of-semester exam. Thisgives you a total score out of 100. However, the exact weightage may vary by course, program, or academic regulations.So always refer to your department’s official scheme.
The biggest advantage of this system is that your internal assessment marks are usually available before the final results are announced. If your final grade is lower than expected, compare your internal and end-semester performance. This helps you identify where marks were lost. It also means that a weaker end-of-semester exam does not always ruin your overall grade. It sometimes happens due to your poor performance in the internal assessment.

SRM allows three different post-result options: Review, Revaluation, and Retotaling. Each serves a different purpose, so choose the one that matches your concern.
Review: Your answer script is checked again for evaluation quality.
Revaluation: Your script is evaluated independently by another examiner.
Retotaling: Only verifies whether marks were added correctly. Answers are not re-evaluated.
The application window is short. Applying for the wrong option can waste the limited opportunities. You generally have 7 days after the results are declared to apply, and the university usually communicates the outcome within 10 working days. But the timeline may change. The application process also varies by faculty and campus. Engineering & Technology, Management, Law, Medical & Health Sciences, and Agricultural Sciences may use different forms or portals. If your revaluation mark changes by more than 10%, SRM appoints a third examiner. The final score is then calculated as the average of the two closest marks among the three evaluations. It ensures that one unusually high or low evaluation does not unfairly affect your result. What actually disqualifies you from a university medal?
A high CGPA is not enough to qualify you for a Chancellor’s Medal or similar academic awards. At some SRM campuses, medal selection is based on 50% CGPA and 50% additional eligibility criteria, with certain conditions. You may become ineligible if you:
Clear any course through a reappearance, arrear, or repeat examination.
Pass a course using grace marks.
Have been detained due to attendance shortage in any semester.
Take more than one attempt to clear a course.
This means a student with an excellent CGPA can still miss out on a university medal if any of the above conditions apply. If earning a medal or academic rank is one of your goals, it’s important to know these rules from your first or second year. At this stage, you still have time to avoid them.

I cleared an arrear early in my degree, and it no longer impacts my CGPA. Could it still cost me something?
Possibly. If you’re aiming for a university medal or academic rank, some SRM campuses may disqualify students who cleared a course through a reappearance, arrear, or repeat examination. This doesn’t affect your degree classification or placements in the same way. But if a medal is important to you, check your campus’s latest eligibility rules.
