The Surprising Part: JMI’s Median Package Is Higher Than IIT Delhi’s
Jamia Millia Islamia’s most recent NIRF-reported median BTech package is ₹25.2 lakh. Three independent sources support this figure, with reported values differing by only a few thousand rupees. IIT Delhi’s reported median package is approximately ₹19-20 lakh.
These figures come with important context. JMI’s BTech batch size is smaller than IIT Delhi’s. A smaller cohort can influence the median more easily than a larger one. This doesn’t make JMI’s figure less valid, but it also does not mean JMI will outperform IIT Delhi across every branch.
This comparison also highlights an important point. IIT Delhi ranks 2nd, and JMI is ranked 24th in the NIRF Engineering rankings. Yet, JMI’s reported median package is higher. Students should therefore look beyond rankings and consider placement outcomes, fee structure, and other factors when comparing colleges.
Why We’re Not Publishing A “Highest Package” For IIT Delhi
IIT Delhi’s highest-package figures vary widely across online sources. Recent reports mention ₹48 lakh, over ₹40 lakh, and more than ₹2 crore. Different articles from the same website sometimes report different figures. IIT Delhi also does not officially publish an average package, so these figures are best treated as unofficial estimates.
IIT Delhi is not the only example. Multiple independent sources report DTU’s highest package as ₹85 lakh for domestic offers and ₹1.8 crore for international offers. However, older pages still carry different figures from previous years. NSUT’s highest package also fell from over ₹1 crore in 2024 to ₹94 lakh in 2025. This shows why the year attached to a package figure matters.
For this reason, we have not included a single “highest package” figure for IIT Delhi. Median and average placement figures are more useful for comparison when they are clearly sourced and tied to a specific year. Treat any eye-catching highest-package figure with caution and always check the year and source behind it.
Top Engineering Colleges in Delhi: Detailed Review
1. IIT Delhi
IIT Delhi is the highest-ranked engineering college in Delhi and the second-highest ranked in India. The reported median package for the 4-year BTech programme is ₹19–20 lakh. The figure is the same across the NIRF 2024 and 2025 reporting cycles. It recorded more than 1,200 job offers in the 2024–25 placement season. It also received 50+ international offers from companies across Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, Taiwan, the UAE, the UK, and the US. Core technical roles were the largest recruiting sector and accounted for 34% of the total offers. The approximate 4-year fee is ₹8–10 lakh, which is standard for an IIT.
2. Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI)
Jamia Millia Islamia is a public central university. It receives direct government funding. This makes JMI the most affordable college on the list. The 4-year tuition fee is ₹77,000.
JMI offers a median package of ₹25.2 lakh. The placement rate was about 85% in the 2025 session. Almost 299 students were placed. Core engineering and IT recruiters accounted for most of the offers. It also reserves 50% of its total seats for Muslim minority students. This can lower the effective cutoff for eligible candidates.
3. DTU (Delhi Technological University)
DTU has the best documented placement data on this list. The average package for 2025 is ₹15.75 lakh, and the median package is ₹12.42 lakh. The highest reported package was ₹85 lakh for a domestic offer. It also recorded a highest package of ₹1.8 crore for an international offer. A total of 1,486 BTech students were placed from more than 350 participating companies. The average package for CSE was higher at approximately ₹19.85 lakh. The approximate 4-year fee is ₹7–9 lakh.
4. IIIT Delhi
IIIT Delhi is an autonomous institute run as a public-private partnership. It is the most expensive college on this list by a significant margin, with an approximate 4-year tuition fee of ₹19.55 lakh. This is notably higher than DTU, NSUT, and NIT Delhi, despite its government affiliation.
Its placement figures vary across sources. The reported average package ranges from ₹19.44 lakh to ₹23.5 lakh. The median is around ₹18 lakh. The highest domestic package was ₹52 lakh. The international offer reached ₹99.28 lakh. The 2025 placement rate was 88.45%, across 176 participating companies.
5. NIT Delhi
NIT Delhi is a government-owned public engineering college. In the 2025 placement season, 230+ companies made 417 job offers. Among them, 151 BTech and 100 MTech students were placed. CSE recorded a 100% placement rate. However, placement rates varied across all the branches. ECE had a placement rate of 68.6%, and EEE recorded 85.71% in the same season. The highest package was ₹58.5 lakh, and the average package was ₹17.19 lakh. The approximate 4-year tuition fee is ₹7 lakh.
6. NSUT (Netaji Subhas University of Technology)
NSUT is formerly known as Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT). It recorded a highest package of ₹65 lakh in 2025. Its highest package was ₹1 crore in previous years. This was a real year-over-year change, not a data error. The average package was ₹17.47 lakh, and the median package was ₹15.06 lakh. CSE had an average package of approximately ₹20–21 lakh, with close to 100% placement in the branch. The approximate 4-year fee is ₹7–9 lakh.
7. IGDTUW (Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women)
IGDTUW is Delhi’s first and only dedicated engineering college for women. It has strong and well-documented placement outcomes. The median BTech package was ₹18–18.47 lakh. The highest package was ₹56 lakh from Adobe. It recorded an 87.3% placement rate in the 2025 placement season. A total of 571 out of 654 graduating students were placed. The CSE-specific average package reached ₹23.15 lakh.
This college appears in the NIRF Engineering Rank Band. Yet, its placement outcomes are competitive with some of the strongest colleges on this list. We have not published a fee figure because we could not confirm a specific fee from a reliable source.
Note: The remaining three colleges — MAIT, MSIT, and BPIT — do not appear in the NIRF Engineering 2025 ranking or rank band. Where an older NIRF band is relevant, we clearly mention the corresponding year. We list them based on other factors such as placement outcomes, fees, reputation, and admission relevance.
8. MAIT (Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology)
MAIT is a private engineering college affiliated with GGSIPU. It was in the 201-300 Engineering band in NIRF 2024, but it is not listed in NIRF 2025. Its 2024 placement figures show a highest package of ₹64 lakh and an average package of ₹8 lakh. The approximate 4-year fee is ₹7.5–7.6 lakh. No median package is published because reliable data is not available.
9. MSIT (Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology)
MSIT is another GGSIPU-affiliated private engineering college. Like MAIT, this was also in the 201-300 Engineering band in NIRF 2024.
We’re not publishing placement figures for MSIT. The specific numbers available were either too old or not clearly sourced enough to trust. The approximate 4-year tuition fee is ₹6.4 lakh. This is the lowest tuition fee among the three private GGSIPU colleges covered here. If placement figures determine your choice, try to verify numbers directly with the institute.
10. BPIT (Bhagwan Parshuram Institute of Technology)
BPIT is the third GGSIPU-affiliated private engineering college on this list. This college is not on the NIRF Engineering Band 2025 ranking. It once ranked within NIRF Engineering Band 251-300 in 2021.
Its own website reports a highest package of ₹53.35 lakh. Prominent recruiters are Google, Adobe, Amazon, and Microsoft. The reported average figure ranges from ₹3.95 lakh to ₹9.02 lakh. However, the figures vary significantly across the sources. The gap is too wide, so we don’t publish any figure with confidence. The approximate 4-year fee is ₹8–8.2 lakh.

Delhi shows a different fee pattern from what we found in our Odisha and Karnataka articles. JMI is a central government university and ranks 24th nationally. Its approximate 4-year fee is ₹77,000— the lowest on this list. Another government-affiliated college, IIIT Delhi, costs around ₹19.55 lakh, which is about 25 times higher.
The three private GGSIPU colleges — MAIT, MSIT, and BPIT — report a much more affordable fee range of roughly ₹6.4–8.2 lakh. They cost less than IIIT Delhi, DTU, and NSUT. So, a government college is not always more affordable.
